this morning's thought

"Nobody has ever before asked the nuclear family to live all by itself in a box the way we do.  With no relatives, no support, we've put it in an impossible situation."  ~Margaret Mead

Where has the extended family gone? I think now, more than ever, we need our grandparents, siblings, our cousins and aunts and uncles.  Just visiting on the holidays is not enough, these people should be a part of our everyday lives, we need them, our children need them, our communities need them! Why are we "building our global village" when our very basic unit, the family, is falling apart?
Now i have to admit that i am not the best aunt or cousin or extended family member.....but i am working on it and you should be too!

  1. Perfect, Leslie. It's so true, on so many levels. I really think if we can get family back together, society will be more willing to care about each other as well. Maybe that's just my "peace, love, hippie" mindset but I can't let go of it.

we need to work on building the family back. sometimes it seems overwhelming though. i put my family as the top most important thing, how do you get everyone to do that? how can the young people growing up to have good family relationships when they have never known any?
